Mayfield Gospel Hall
Not sure where to start?
If you’re curious about the message of the Bible, the best place to start is our Gospel Meeting — come and hear the good news explained clearly.
What is the Gospel?
The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ lived, died for our sins, and rose again so that anyone who trusts him can be forgiven and restored to God (see John 3:16; Romans 5:8; Romans 10:9). If you’re curious, the Gospel Meeting is the best place to start.
Meetings
Breaking of Bread
On the first day of the week we gather to remember the Lord Jesus by sharing bread and wine, just as He asked His disciples to do (Luke 22:19–20; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26). The bread speaks of His body given for us; the cup speaks of His blood shed for the forgiveness of sins. This meeting is for believers in fellowship with the church, as it expresses both personal faith and collective unity (1 Corinthians 10:16–17). Visitors are welcome to observe and to share in the singing, prayer, and reading of Scripture, but partaking of the bread and cup is for those who are in fellowship.
Gospel Meeting
The Gospel simply means “good news.” At this meeting you’ll hear a clear, straightforward message from the Bible about God’s love, the problem of sin, the work of Jesus Christ in His death and resurrection, and how anyone can be saved through faith in Him (Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 15:1–4; John 3:16). This meeting is especially for visitors, enquirers, and anyone who wants to understand the Christian message. You are warmly welcome to come, listen, and ask questions.
Prayer and Bible Teaching
We gather to pray together and to be taught from God’s Word. This includes:
-
Ministry Meeting (Sunday) — A Bible message to encourage and strengthen believers in living out their faith.
-
Bible Reading (Wednesday) — An open study of a Bible passage, with opportunity for questions and contributions, so that we can learn together in fellowship.
These meetings are based on the pattern of the early church, which continued “in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42). Visitors are welcome to attend and listen, but participation in the discussion or prayer is generally for those in fellowship.
