Who are we?
In summary we are a small, independent church or, more accurately, assembly of Christians who live in the surrounding neighbourhood. Responsibility for the care and guidance of the church lies in the hands of the elders. The teaching and preaching is done by those in the church whom God has equipped for that task. We also invite speakers from farther afield to give us help from time to time. All members of the church are encouraged to use the gifts that God has given them. We believe that each member has a unique gift which should be used for the benefit of all. We believe however that the Bible teaches that public teaching and worship is the responsibility of the men (1 Cor 14:34; 1 Tim 2:8, 11).
Our aim is to serve the community in which we have been placed by reaching out to them with the gospel, the good news that the Lord Jesus through His death and resurrection can save them from their sins.
We welcome all visitors to our gatherings. Membership of the church and participation in the Lord’s Supper is open to those who have been saved, baptised and adhere to the “apostles’ doctrine and fellowship” - “They that gladly received his word were baptised: and the same day there were added unto (the church at Jerusalem) about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” (Act 2:41-42).
All will be made most welcome, if you need transport to and from the hall please get in touch on either 0131 663 0458 or 0131 660 1256, alternatively CLICK HERE to leave a message on the enquiries page.
What we believe
What follows is a summary of our beliefs on certain matters supported by appropriate quotations from scripture. All quotations are from the King James (Authorised) Version of the Bible unless otherwise indicated.
THERE IS ONE GOD, ETERNALLY EXISTENT IN THREE PERSONS, FATHER, SON & HOLY SPIRIT.
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Mt. 28:18–20 (N.K.J.V.)
THE WORLD AND MANKIND WAS CREATED BY GOD
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Gen. 1:1
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Gen 1:26–27
THE LORD JESUS WAS BORN OF A VIRGIN IN BETHLEHEM
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Matt 1:18 (NKJV)
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem … and she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:4-5
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matt. 1:22–23
THE LORD JESUS DIED FOR THE SIN OF THE WORLD AND ROSE AGAIN
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Cor. 15:3–4
THE LORD JESUS WILL COME AGAIN
I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:2-3
The Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1 Thess. 4:16–17
THE LORD JESUS CHRIST IS BOTH FULLY MAN AND FULLY GOD
In him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily Col 2:9
THE LORD JESUS IS SINLESS
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin. 1 John 3:5
MANKIND HAS BEEN RUINED BY SIN AND NEEDS SALVATION.
All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Rom. 3:23
The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom. 6:23
GOD HAS PROVIDED SALVATION THROUGH THE LORD JESUS
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
…God our Saviour; will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all…1 Tim. 2:3–6
ETERNAL LIFE IS A GIFT FROM GOD AND IS RECEIVED BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH
God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), … For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast…Eph 2:4-5, 8–9 (N.K.J.V.)
THE LORD JESUS ALONE IS HEAD OF THE CHURCH
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: (that we) may grow up into him in all things, which is the Head, even Christ: Eph. 4:11–15
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the pre-eminence. Col. 1:18
THE CHURCH EXISTS TO WORSHIP, PRAY AND SERVE.
...the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when He had given thanks, He brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also He took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come. 1 Cor. 11:23-26
Then they that gladly received his word were baptised: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers… And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. Acts 2:41-42, 47
I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works. Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 1 Timothy 2:8-12 (N.K.J.V.)
THE BIBLE IS DIVINE IN ORIGIN
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Tim. 3:16
